Miami Beach Announces New Season of Free Films Under the Stars – City of Miami Beach - miamibeachfl.gov

(Miami Beach, FL) Oct 6, 2021 -

Entering its 12th season, the Cinema Series at SoundScape Park returns this month — featuring free weekly movies curated by the American Black Film Festival (ABFF). The eight-month series begins Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. with “The Pursuit of Happyness” (2006), an American biographical drama starring Will Smith as Chris Gardner, a struggling single father who dreams of a better life for his young son.

“This is a great opportunity for families to take in a classic film or family-friendly movie in a beautiful setting,” shared Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak. “It’s a re-imagined drive-in theater without cars.”

The films are projected onto a 7,000-square-foot wall of the New World Center through a freestanding state-of-the art visual and audio system, which was recently upgraded this summer to provide a resolution four times greater than high definition.

Other movies scheduled for the season include “The Wiz” (1978), “Knives Out” (2019), “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” (1967), “The Outsiders” (1983) and more.

Bring a blanket, pack a picnic basket and arrive early to get a front-row lawn seat as you enjoy cinema on the beautifully manicured grounds of SoundScape Park at the southwest corner of Washington Avenue and 17 Street. Subscribe to the MBArtsAndCulture weekly eblast to receive weekly updates on the movie series. About the American Black Film Festival
The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) is an annual event dedicated to recognizing Black talent and showcasing quality film and television content by and about people of African descent. Dedicated to the belief that diverse artists deserve the same opportunities as their mainstream counterparts, ABFF founder Jeff Friday conceived the festival in 1997 as a vehicle to strengthen the Black entertainment community by fostering resource sharing, education, and artistic collaboration. Now in its 25th year, the festival has become a cornerstone of diversity in Hollywood, providing a platform for emerging Black artists – many of whom have become today’s most successful actors, producers, writers, directors, and stand-up comedians. The ABFF is a property of ABFF Ventures LLC, a division of Jeff Friday Media (JFM). For more information, visit www.abff.com/miami/. The 2021 American Black Film Festival will be held virtually from Nov. 3 – Nov. 28.
