Adriana Morga/ Hearst Connecticut MediaA new Netflix production for a film based on a Stephen King novella has set up shop in the Nutmeg State and has added another location to its growing list of Connecticut backdrops.
The Ridgefield Playhouse was the latest set of “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone,” a film based on the thriller writer’s latest collection of novellas, “If It Bleeds.” The movie tells the story of a boy named Craig who bonds with the titular character, a reclusive millionaire, over books and a found iPhone, the release notes. The phone is buried with Mr. Harrigan upon his death, and it becomes Craig’s line of communication to the deceased man. According to IMDb, the film is slated to be released in 2022.
For its debut in the film, the Playhouse was turned into a high school, according to a release, and will be used for six scenes in the film. On Sunday, the Playhouse’s sign above its front entrance was replaced with a prop sign reading “Gates Falls High School,” according to the release, and crews returned on Monday to complete the performance venue’s film transformation.
The film has used several locations around the state as its backdrop so far. In mid-October, the production shut down a road in Barkhamsted, and the film carried on its Connecticut filming in Westport toward the end of the month. It also shut down Washington Street in Norwalk at the end of October, while also using the city’s Lockwood Mathews Mansion as its backdrop through Thanksgiving.
The new Netflix film is just one of a lineup of films that have brought their productions through Connecticut, which include Hallmark Christmas films and a Disney+ movie.
