Five UNCSA short films, four alumni films screening in RiverRun International Film Festival - UNCSA

Man and a woman on the edge of land looking at water.Five UNCSA short films will screen in the RiverRun International Film Festival 2021:  “In Our Nature,” “Kindred Kings,” “Pink, White & Blue,” “Sideways,” and “Stuffed.”
 
Four films with UNCSA alumni in key creative roles also will screen in RiverRun 2021: “Landlocked,” “Life in the Sacrifice Zone,”  “Summertime” and “Thorp.”
 
UNCSA student Will Henderson will serve on the Narrative Features jury and Jenna Cusack will serve on the Narrative Shorts jury.
 
The RiverRun International Film Festival is May 6 through May 16, 2021. It features a hybrid of in-person outdoor screenings and virtual screenings online.
 
UNCSA students and alumni get a reduced ticket price of $2 off the standard $12 ticket. The price per car at the Marketplace Drive-In will be $20, for as many people as you can fit in one car.

Film Schedule

“Pink, White & Blue” will screen in North Carolina Shorts 1 program. In-person screening is Saturday, May 8, at 8:30 p.m. at SECCA lawn venue, and it will screening virtually May 9-11.
 
“In Our Nature,” “Kindred Kings,” “Sideways,” and “Stuffed” will screen in North Carolina Shorts 2 program. In-person screening is Wednesday, May 12, at 8:30 p.m. at SECCA lawn venue, and it will screening virtually May 13-15.
 
Alumni film “Landlocked” will screen in-person Saturday, May 15, at 8:30 p.m. at SECCA lawn venue, and it will screening virtually Sunday, May 16.
 
Alumni Film “Life in the Sacrifice Zone” will screen in-person Thursday, May 13, at 8:30 p.m. at Marketplace Cinemas (Drive-In) and will screen virtual  Friday, May 14.
 
Alumni Film “Summertime” will screen in-person Thursday, May 13, at 8:30 p.m. at SECCA lawn venue, and it will screening virtually Friday, May 14.
 
Alumni Film “Thorp” will screen in-person: Monday, May 10 at 8:30 p.m. at SECCA lawn venue, and it will screening virtually Sunday, May 16.

About the films


"In Our Nature"

“In Our Nature” was written by Echo Wilson and Nick Bailey; directed and animated by Echo Wilson; produced by Nick Bailey with animation and coloring by Mckayla Singleton, Abby Davenport, and Kamryn Szeliga; editing and sound design by Jacob Boyle and music by Alexandra Franco Zorro. “In Our Nature” will screen in NC Shorts Program 2.

"Kindred Kings"

“Kindred Kings” was co-written and directed by Trey Gray, and co-written/produced by School of Filmmaking student Jo Hatcher, with cinematography and editing by School of Filmmaking student Zachary Smith. Production design is by Romello Huins and Gray, who also provided costume design, with makeup by Natosha Martin, and music by School of Design and Production student Nick Parnell. Vocals were composed and performed by School of Drama student Deandre Sevon and Mlaj. “Kindred Kings” will screen in NC Shorts Program 2.

"Pink, White & Blue"

"Pink, White & Blue" was directed, edited and sound designed by Ash Malone; produced by Epiphany James, Ellie Emfinger and Erin Gallagher with cinematography by Ian Price and music by Michael Gaffney. “Pink, White & Blue” will screen in NC Shorts Program 1.

"Sideways"

"Sideways" was written by Ben Trauner; directed by Daniel Robert Smith; produced by Thatcher Johnson-Welden; co-produced by Sam Varriale with cinematography by John Curtis; production design by Jordan W. Sayman; edited by Nikos Spiridakis; sound designed by Micah Godsey and Spiridakis with music by Michael Gaffney; costume design by Lizzie Lovett and wig & makeup design by Nic See. “Sideways” will screen in NC Shorts Program 2.

"Stuffed"

“Stuffed” was written by Willow Longbrake; directed by Fer McFarlane; produced by Jenna Cusack and Julia Lofton Walpole with cinematography by Willow Longbrake, production designed by Shelby Grzech; edited by Jack Hansen; music by Tyler Hawes; costume design by Brandi McKinnon and wig & makeup design by Joan Paluska. “Stuffed” will screen in NC Shorts Program 2.

"Landlocked"

"Landlocked" was written by Jonathan Foster (BFA Filmmaking ’03) and Tim Hall (BFA Filmmaking  ’11), from a story by Hall, directed by Hall, produced by Leslie Hall, Tim Hall, Daniel Hansen (BFA Filmmaking ’11), Alexander Sablow (BFA Filmmaking  ’09), with cinematography by Sablow , edited by Daniel Hansen and Kevin Tadge (BFA Filmmaking ’09), music by Son of Cloud, costume design by Karen Freed, featuring Dustin Gooch (BFA Filmmaking ’09) in the cast. Purvis Jordan (BFA Filmmaking ’09) served as the executive producer and Tiffany Luard  (BFA Filmmaking ’08) was an associate producer.

"Life In the Sacrifice Zone"

Chad Nance (BFA Filmmaking '95) from Winston-Salem, NC, will screen his first feature film documentary “Life In the Sacrifice Zone” In the NC Stories section. The film is about a group of people in Stokes country who battled Duke Energy over coal ash spills and spurred one of the biggest clean-ups in history.

"Summertime"

Adam Tate (BFA Filmmaking '06) was the production manager on a film in the Special Presentations section called “Summertime.”

"Thorp"

Liz Printz (BFA D&P '09) and Andrew Terlizzi  BFA D&P '06) both served as producers on a feature film “Thorp.”
