Montclair Film launches Emerging Screenwriter Competition young writers - Montclair Local

Montclair Film will hold the first annual Emerging Screenwriter Competition for students in eighth through 12th grade.

Screenwriters are invited to submit a wide range of original screenplays that showcase the unique voices and talents of young people who are using story to express themselves, according to a Montclair Film press release.

The screenplays can be submitted in a variety of genres including comedy, drama, action, sci-fi/fantasy and horror, and will be adjudicated by a jury of screenwriting and filmmaking professionals. Short film or web series pilots will be accepted up to a length of 12 pages.

Submissions will be accepted through Feb. 21, 2022. Winners will be celebrated in an award ceremony on March 27.

Additionally, the organization announced that submissions are now open for Montclair Film’s annual Emerging Filmmaker Competition, a film competition open to students throughout the country interested in submitting short films in the narrative, comedy, documentary and experimental film categories. The Emerging Filmmaker Competition also offers special social impact Awards for young filmmakers who engage with social issues in their work.

This year’s competitive divisions are: Storytellers, for filmmakers in sixth through eighth grade and Visionaries, for filmmakers in ninth through 12th grade.
