The Great Escape Film Presented by Knog Premieres in the United States - SNEWS

Melbourne, AU – Sept 21, 2021 – British Adventure Collective is excited to announce the stateside debut of The Great Escape, presented by Knog. In this poignant, inspiring, and visually stunning film, British Adventurer Aaron Rolph reimagines the popular Land’s End to John o’Groats traverse across Great Britain. Taking anything but the shortest route, Rolph brings to life a lockdown daydream, bikepacking 2,700km from the Scilly Isles to the Northernmost point of the Shetland Islands in hopes of inspiring others to carve their own adventure. Along the way, Rolph places experiences over records, kayaking, surfing, paddleboarding, mountain biking, camping, running, climbing, and skiing the incredible wild spaces he encounters.

Sweeping shots of rolling hills, rugged coastlines, and quaint villages coupled with Rolph’s lightheartedness and infectious charm combine to produce a film full of character, adventure, and eternal optimism. Reflecting on sentiments many have experienced over this past year, Rolph explains the genesis of his idea. “I wanted to tackle my own adventure, putting records and superlatives aside to focus on getting the most out of this self-propelled journey.” Elaborating on why he decided to double the distance of the popular Great Britain traverse, Rolph explains, “Why take the quickest route? You’d miss out on so many amazing experiences. This was about finding freedom in homegrown adventures, especially in a year where travel is limited.”

The 2700km journey was not without its challenges. Rolph’s Great Escape began in July 2020, but after an unforeseen mountain bike crash, he was rushed to the hospital with a severed colon. Just 8 weeks post-emergency surgery, the adventurer climbed back on his bike, ready to pick up where he left off. But, the world had other plans as COVID restrictions tightened, forcing him to postpone the Great Escape for another year. When the summer of 2021 rolled around, Rolph was more excited than ever to get pedaling. “An entire year passed presenting a variety of challenges, yet somehow it felt like nothing changed. I had plenty of pent-up energy and was excited to finish my big ride,” says Rolph.

In addition to a renewed sense of purpose, Rolph gathered support for his journey from the like-minded Bike & Outdoor accessory brand partner, Knog. “When Knog was first introduced to Aaron’s idea of tackling the ultimate UK adventure, everything about it resonated with us. Here is a man, seeking his own version of freedom–something our products have allowed people to do for nearly 20 years,” says Louis Philo, Knog’s Brand Director.

As Rolph pedals his way to the end of Great Britain, where jagged hills careen down to the Atlantic Ocean, it’s hard not to revel in the journey alongside him. As the film eloquently puts it, “To freely carve your own adventure, keep looking forward, expect nothing, and accept everything. Learn to flow fluidly like water, or, whiskey.” The Great Escape will have you raising a glass to your own adventure, no matter how many stops you make along the way.
