Film Producer Pledges Movie Proceeds Will Go to HBCUs - Inside Higher Ed

Realm Pictures International is committing 10 percent of the profits from its upcoming film Steal Away to historically Black colleges and universities, according to a press release from the film production company.

The movie, expected to begin filming this winter, charts the history of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, an a cappella group at Fisk University, an HBCU in Nashville, Tenn. In addition to donating the money to HBCUs, including Fisk, the company plans to prioritize hiring technical and performing arts professionals who graduated from these institutions.

“In building philanthropy to these treasured institutions into our core business model, we’re throwing down the gauntlet for both Hollywood and Wall Street to follow,” Stephen Ashley Blake, founder and CEO of Realm Pictures International and the film’s scriptwriter, said in the release.
