Mike Mentor, a 30-year old American filmmaker from North Bergen, New Jersey, is an up-and-coming writer/director currently based in Los Angeles. A former Seahawk football player, Mike has a master’s degree from the Nicolais School of Business at Wagner College in media management, film and TV. His eclectic background has helped him bring a unique storytelling and filming style into filmmaking that diversifies with experience. In addition to “Everyday,” his writing and directorial debuts include two other short films, “Hot Feet” (3 min.) and “Life with CTE: A Warren Sapp Story” (15 min.).

In addition to writing, directing and producing his own short films, Mike Mentor has recently worked as a camera production assistant on Damien Chazelle’s film, “Babylon,” starring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie. He also worked as a production assistant on the David O. Russell film, “Amsterdam,” starring Christian Bale, Margot Robbie and John David Washington.

Mike Mentor at Wagner

“I first walked onto the Wagner College campus in August 2012,” Mike says. “That was the moment my life changed forever. I was a scholarship football player from 2012 to 2016. We won the school’s first NEC conference championship during my freshman year, in 2012, and we won another in 2014, my junior year.

“While off the field, Wagner taught me how to survive on my own in the busy city of New York. I learned every opportunity that I needed was right in front of me on campus, and Wagner provided a life after football for me that I couldn’t ever imagine -- from the dedicated professors who focus on the student’s abilities, to the internship programs.

“I graduated with my undergrad degree in business finance in 2016. After realizing I wanted to create art, I stuck around campus and worked at the school library to pay for my graduate MBA. While studying for my master’s, I had the chance to intern at some of the best production companies in NYC. I then graduated in 2018 with an MBA in media management.

“I wasn’t expecting to spend six years at Wagner when I first walked in as a young man -- but I did, and it was the best decision I ever made.”
