DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - If you are in the Duluth area, chances are you have heard of Catalyst Story Institute.
Since 2006, the non-profit has worked with writers, producers, and performers to grow their careers in the television industry.
To help further its mission, Catalyst recently announced a new collaboration with a well-known film school.
Anna Tanski, head of festivals and events at Catalyst, joined Kendall Jarboe and Samantha Basirico on KBJR 6 Today to talk about the new partnership and what it means for the community.
“This is really an exciting announcement because Catalyst is well established within the television production industry, but this type of partnership really takes it to the next level, especially with such a well-known and highly visible partner like Second City,” Tanski said.
Catalyst is partnering with Second City to bolster training and programs.
Founded in Chicago, Second City has been an influential training ground for up-and-coming improv and comedy stars.
The organization has stages, touring companies, and training centers across the country that have housed notable comedians like Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey, Bill Murray, and more.
Catalyst is looking forward to Second City offering workshops as part of their one-year program to get participants more involved in the comedy sector of the television industry.
There might also be a showcase from Second City at the Catalyst Festival at the end of the program.
Tanski said this partnership is a great way to get Duluth’s production efforts on the map.
“This is really a way to develop talent and keep our talent here in the Northland, but to bring the creative world and the arts and culture and entertainment sector to Duluth and in a really meaningful way and a way that is really intended to elevate their opportunities and really try to put Duluth on the map as the hub for an independent television production,” she said.
The Catalyst Story Institute Festival is open to the general public in the Fall.
