Sunscreen Film Festival schedule announced - St Pete Catalyst

Produced by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and its Marine Life Rescue Project, in association with WTSP, Stranded: A Whale Rescue Tale will screen during the 17th annual Sunscreen Film Festival, April 28-May 1 at the Sundial theaters in downtown St. Petersburg.

“Stranded: A Whale Rescue Tale.”

The 25-minute film documents the 2019 stranding of five male short-finned pilot whales – a deepwater species rarely seen near the coast – on Redington Beach. The documentary was screened once previously, at the aquarium last September.

Three of the animals were deemed healthy enough to release back into the Gulf, while the other two were treated at the CMA’s Tarpon Springs medical facility.

Stranded is part of the “Documentary Shorts” package screening May 1.

Sunscreen 2022 will feature 39 independent films, from across the USA and around the world, along with a total of 149 shorts.

The opening night feature is director Marla Sokoloff’s Rose’ All Day. The comedy stars Chelsea Alden, Veronica Dunne, Alice Hunter and Jenna Uskowitz as college friends who reunite once a year for a wine-infused pool party.
