How The Bob’s Burgers Movie’s ‘Burger of the Day’ Summarizes the Film - CBR - Comic Book Resources

Part of the allure of adult animation shows like The Simpsons and King of the Hill is how they can take simple daily speedbumps and create hilarious moments and lifelong lessons around them. A great modern example of this is Bob's Burgers, which follows the daily life of Bob Belcher and his family as they try to keep their burger joint afloat while dealing with drama in their seaside town. Whether serious or lighthearted, the show always finds a way to allude to the humor in its environment, and the latest trailer for The Bob's Burgers Movie is no exception.

In each episode, Bob's Burgers will have a "Burger of the Day" written on a chalkboard in the restaurant. These burgers are often a clever play on words that can allude to an old saying or movie reference, like "The National Pass-Thyme Burger" or "The Unbreakable Kimichi Schmidt Burger." That said, the trailer to the new film unveiled a brand new burger that takes on a different role by foreshadowing the film's plot and far more serious tone.

The trailer opens with Bob constantly repeating "oh no" with a thousand-yard stare at the dinner table. At first, it feels like another moment of Bob slightly overreacting, but it's quickly revealed that he has seven days to pay his bills or he will likely lose Bob's Burgers and his home. Not long after, a scene is shown with the film's burger of the day titled the "Between a Broc and a Chard Place Burger." The scene is a clever nod to the movie's conflict while also showing how the plot will only get more complicated from here.

As the trailer progresses, the prophecy within the Burger of the Day continues to come true as chaos ensues for Bob and his family. Scenes of a sinkhole in front of the restaurant, Tina somehow developing telekinesis and scattered musical numbers help to drive home the idea that The Bob's Burgers Movie will be a deserved extension of the beloved show. But aside from that, it also shows that if Bob's legal woes are the "broc," then the "chard" place must represent everything that is shown from the sinkhole onward.

The Burger of the Day has always been a source of levity in the series, as no matter what is going on, the cleverly named burger will always be there to put a smile on the viewer's face. Now, it has become something similar to a prophecy where anything could happen, and Bob's mental, physical and financial state are all encompassed in the "Between A Broc And A Chard Place Burger." This shows that there's still room for surprises in the franchise and could pull viewers in with its riskier tone.

Bob Belcher and his family are no strangers to hardship and overcoming obstacles. However, in The Bob's Burgers Movie, the dilemma he's in might be his most dangerous yet. Nevertheless, while the Burger of the Day may symbolize hardships on the horizon, it doesn't necessarily signal a somber end for the film or the Belchers. If anything, this is merely a movie-sized obstacle that requires a movie-sized solution.

The Bob's Burgers Movie flips into theaters on May 27.
